When Jason was on training as a technical support representative for Microsoft, he was working day and night to make sure he can keep up with all the technicalities. When he applied, he was asked to take the pen and paper test which will determine which department he will be placed. It seemed like he passed and got a good rating on the technical part as he got placed for a spot on training with the technical department. The team he is in will be handling phone and email support for the operating systems covering Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The training was pretty intensive and it took 3 months for the whole course to finish. The moment he finished and pass the training he went live on production. His team leader placed him on first rotation to answer email support cases and he can still remember the very case he handled. The email support case had the subject, “how do i surf the internet on my wii”, Jason thought he was lucky this issue does not seem like too difficult for him. You see he has a wii unit himself and he has used this countless of times to surf the net. So he basically knows the step by step instructions in using it to connect to the internet. The following day he got rotated and assigned to take in phone support calls and his first ever call was with an issue on How To Connect XP To Internet. His customer sounded Chinese so he figured it was normal with the language shortcuts. He managed to fix the customer’s issue and had him connected to the internet again, the call took him less than 10 minutes which was pretty impressive especially for a newbie.
