Car Dealers Decisions

My daughter is getting her license soon and we are going back and forth about whether to let her use the family car or buy her a half way decent car.  Car Dealers do sell used cars with a warranty.  The assumption has to be made that if they are guaranteeing the car then it has to be halfway decent.  You just never know and I have a distrust of salesmen because, after all, they are just trying to make a living. I even have three family members who are salesmen and I know they just earning a living.

Using the family car would mean not having to go through the expense of buying a used car.  It would also mean not having to spend money on repairs.  Then you have an extra insurance bill.  It is starting to feel that using the family car is the best option.  I work at home so I rarely use the car except for visiting family or running errands.  I can go days without leaving the house.  My husband has his own car from last year when we visited Car Dealers.  Then I start thinking what if she gets in an accident and then I am left with no car and I would not like that.  She, of course, is asking for a new car but that is out of the question, there will be no new car, which makes me think about another option;  I could buy a new car and pass mine down to her.

The maternal grandparents have an older type car and they are thinking of having my daughter buy it for a small amount and getting a new car from a car deralers themselves.  I wonder if I can talk them into paying insurance?  Really, having them pass her a car would be a wonderful solution for me.  I would just have to pay repairs, excise tax and insurance. She will have to provide her own gas and will need a job first.

Did I mention that she does not work yet?  I was lucky in this because I did not need to give many rides, just to the mall or to friends houses.  Right now all the decisions are still being pondered.  Starting next week are driving lessons and as that is held at night, I will be giving rides.  Lucky for me, they will be finished by about 10 p.m. so it is not too late that I have to try to stay awake.
