Jeep Cherokee – One Of The First SUVs

The Jeep Cherokee was one of the first SUV type vehicles to be produced that had a reasonable gas mileage and wasn’t huge and difficult to handle. Although these are no longer being replaced since Jeep replaced this model with the newer Liberty model, they are still very popular.

It is still common to see the Jeep Cherokee on the road and to find used Cherokees for sale. They were made from 1984 until 2001, and there weren’t a lot of changes to the look and trim options during that time, so the older models still look pretty similar to the newer ones. However, many people have modified their Jeeps in order to make them better for off road use, and these vehicles will have a slightly different look.

You can have your choice of a four cylinder or six cylinder engine, and a manual or automatic transmission. Trim levels include SE, which is the basic choice, Sport, or Country (which is the higher end option). You could also choose rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. The newer Cherokees have dual airbags to make them safer.

These cars perform very well off road, as well as on road, which is part of the reason why they are so popular with their owners. Some people do find them to be a little bit stiff, but overall they do a very good job. Some people have problems getting in and out as the step up is fairly high and the doors are small, and the rear seat isn’t very spacious, so it isn’t a great option for those with lots of passengers.

Those who have driven the Jeep Cherokee in the past and want to purchase another will have to look on the used market, or consider purchasing the Liberty instead. For used cars, you should really go through a dealership that will offer you some type of guarantee rather than purchasing from an individual, or else have the car thoroughly inspected by a trusted mechanic before purchasing it. The brake rotors are one of the parts that is more likely to have issues with these SUVs, so it is important to make sure that these are in good working order.
