Sales of Catalytic Converters are on the increase

Catalytic Converters Starting in 1983, auto makers figured out a way to use computers to control the engine in such a way so that it would not let off too much exhaust. Although this was effective this method is still not enough to help with the reduction of exhaust. This where the use of catalytic converters come in. The catalytic converter behaves as a ‘trimmer” to cut down on emissions to near zero levels. The converters have special materials inside them named catalyst, which are shaped like a honey comb. This honey comb material causes a low temp oxidation of the CO and HC elements found in exhaust gas. The newer model catalytic converters also reduce the Nitrogen oxide elements found in the exhaust. There are 3 different types of catalytic converter being used today. The first one is called single bed 2 way converters. This was one of the earliest models that were fitted on cars, which were made in the 1970’s. In these converters the materials that are used is contained in a single chamber. The second type is known as single bed 3 way catalytic converters. This was the first type that could oxidize all three gases, CO, HC, and Nitrogen oxide. These were first introduced in the late 1970’s are still used to this day. The third type is called duel bed 3 way converters. In this type there are separate chambers for oxidizing or breaking down all three exhaust gases, that is CO, HC and Nitrogen oxide. In this day and age when people are much more pollution conscious than ever before, Catalytic converters have more than ever become popular and the sales of them are on the rise. “Go Green” has become the new mantra and as a result more and more people especially young people are looking for ways to help with the pollution problem. We live in a green is “cool” era. Some people may think how a humble little catalytic converter can help make a difference. It can make a huge difference when all the cars out there use them. Here is an example of that. In Germany because of vehicle caused pollution, the amount of acid rain in the atmosphere increased. This acid rain was considered to be the main culprit behind the slow demise of the “Black forest” which is located in southwestern Germany. After the introduction of catalytic converters in vehicles the amount of pollution in the air was reduced and as a result the amount of “Acid rain” also got reduced. With this there was almost an immediate difference and the Black forest started to rejuvenate once again. This example is told to people who may not believe in the pros of using converters. Along with the environmental benefits catalytic converters also help with the mileage of the car. With all these reason the sales of catalytic converters are on the rise
