The VW Polo is a compact car with a 3 or 4 cylinder engines that come in petrol or diesel. Where as before they only came in 5-speed manual transmissions, you can now get them in 4-speed automatic transmission. The Polo will be coming to the United States in the fall of 2010. It will be a 2011 model. The style of the body has been different through out the life of this interesting vehicle. At first it was originally a hatchback whose source came from the Audi 50. The second style is the classic. And the third style is the coupe. And became the most popular style in whatever country the Polo was marketed to sale.
The Polo Mark I was from 1975-1979. A new style of Polo Mark I was from 1979-1981. Then there is the Polo Mark II, which was from 1981-1990. The VW Polo Mark II even had a wagon shape model. The newer style of Polo Mark II was from 1990-1994. Now we come to Polo Mark III. This one was from 1994-1999. This style was available in 3 or 5 door hatchback versions. From 2000-2002 was the newer style of Polo Mark III.
Some interesting bit of information is that the Mark IIIF Polo Classic is still selling in Mexico and Argentina. It is called the Derby in Mexico. The Polo Mark IV was from 2002-2005. This model was extremely popular in South Africa. It too was remade into a newer model from 2005-2009. Which brings us to the Polo Mark V. Which is from 2009 to the present. It is 36mm longer and 32mm wider. It is 7.5% lighter than the previous Polo’s. Even the boot capacity has been increased by 10 litres.
The VW Polo people expect to increase it sales in the United States.As a matter of fact they plan to launch two new models that will be just for the American market. These specific cars will be built in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the VW Company has a new plant. They are looking into building North American versions of the VW Polo at their factory in Pueblo, Mexico.
